Our mobile spay and neuter clinic provides a convenient way to sterilize animals. The mobile clinic is in service throughout the community several times a week. Due to space limitations, clients are taken on a first come first serve basis. All pets must be at the mobile clinic by 7 a.m., and must be picked up at 2:30 p.m. Pets not picked up by 3:00 p.m. will be impounded at Animal Services. Dogs over 50 pounds will be referred to Orange County Animal Services Spay/Neuter Clinic. For more information dial 3-1-1.

• Spaying and neutering helps dogs and cats live longer, healthier lives.
• Spaying and neutering can eliminate or reduce the incidence of a number of health problems that can be very difficult or expensive to treat.
• Spaying eliminates the possibility of uterine or ovarian cancer and greatly reduces the incidence of breast cancer, particularly when your pet is spayed before her first estrous cycle.
• Neutering eliminates testicular cancer and decreases the incidence of prostate disease.

Spaying or Neutering Is Good for You

• Spaying and neutering makes pets better, more affectionate companions.
• Neutering cats makes them less likely to spray and mark territory.
• Spaying a dog or cat eliminates her heat cycle. Estrus lasts an average of six to 12 days, often twice a year, in dogs and an average of six to seven days, three or more times a year, in cats. Females in heat can cry incessantly, show nervous behavior, and attract unwanted male animals.
• Unsterilized animals often exhibit more behavior and temperament problems than do those who have been spayed or neutered.
• Spaying and neutering can make pets less likely to bite.
• Neutering makes pets less likely to roam the neighborhood, run away, or get into fights.

• Irresponsible breeding contributes to the problem of dog bites and attacks.
• Animal shelters are overburdened with surplus animals.
• Stray pets and homeless animals get into trash containers, defecate in public areas or on private lawns, and frighten or anger people who have no understanding of their misery or needs.

The Spay/Neuter Clinic is utilized for sterilization surgeries. The purpose of the clinic is to provide affordable pet spay and neuter surgery to provide a proactive means of reducing the number of unwanted pets.
The fees are as follows:

• Female dogs - $25
• Male dogs - $15
• Female cats - $20
• Male cats - $10
• And a rabies vaccination (only available with the surgery) - $5.

If you are on a reduced income your pets may qualify for free spay and neuter services. As of October 3, 2005, Orange County Residents who meet the 100 percent federal poverty level, or receive Medicaid benefits, may have their animals spayed or neutered free of charge.

To qualify, proof of Medicaid must be provided at the time of check in.
