About the Program...

Yard of the Month

Yard-of-the-Month, is a fun and relatively simple program designed to recognize and reward great looking yards in your neighborhood.  Orange County Neighborhood Services Division encourages residents to keep their neighborhoods clean and attractive and has developed basic guidelines that any neighborhood can use to start a Yard-of-the-Month program.

  • Neighborhood Services staff will attend your neighborhood organization meeting to share information about the program to your entire organization membership
  • Neighborhood Services will continue to work with a select neighborhood beautification committee, who will establish yard selection criteria
  • Neighborhood Services will provide the Yard-of-the-Month (or Quarter) recognition sign, the yard nomination forms, and the yard evaluation forms
  • Your neighborhood organization will also be provided with a sample donation request letter to assist with soliciting prizes for additional rewards for Yard-of-the-Month recipients

  • Creating a beautification committee to take on the regular maintenance of the program
  • Getting the word out to residents about the program to encourage them to make yard improvements
  • Encouraging resident participation
  • Collecting nominations and rate nominations
  • Awarding a resident with the Yard-of-the-Month sign

What Participating Neighborhoods Have To Say
horizontalbar

  • "Our neighborhood, Starlight Ranch Mobile Home Community, has participated in your Yard of the Month Program for several years. The program has proved successful for our residents as they are always glad to have had their yard selected as the yard of the month. The last recipient of this award were so happy, I received a big hug and a kiss from both of the homeowners. The wife stated that she was so glad to get this recognition because they had worked so hard to improve their yard and "it has finally paid off."
Miriam Burtsche, President of Starlight Ranch Mobile Home Community.
  • "…there has been an obvious increase in how many neighbors are trying to compare their yards to the winner. It is a great motivator for most folks."
Ray Hankele, Vice President, Colonial Lakes HOA
  • "The Colony Connection is creating new ways to beautify our neighborhood.  Recognizing our neighbors who make a daily effort to keep our community beautiful is an easy way to encourage others to lend a hand."
Maria E. Serrano, Beautification Committee Chair, Colony Connection
