Orange County, Fl., Just before two this afternoon, Orange County Fire Rescue received a report of smoke coming from a second floor apartment at the Chowder Bay apartments located at 1664 Holden Ave.
The first fire crews arrived 4 minutes from the time they received the alarm. Upon arriving they saw smoke coming from the roof of the building. Having determined that all residents were out safely, firefighters went to the task of extinguishing the fire. The fire was hidden in the walls between apartments. Because the fire was hidden, firefighters used special tools, including a thermal imaging camera to find the source of the fire and extinguish it.
The fire was contained to a small area. Because of the fire’s location in the walls between apartments, four apartments received damage. Two of the damaged apartments were vacant and the other two occupied. The displaced families will receive assistance from the American Red Cross and building management for temporary housing.
The fire is not being deemed suspicious, but the State Fire Marshal has been called to determine the cause.
